"SELFY : I'M IN TRANS" Solo Exhibition

Since 2020, Masato Yamaguchi’s SELFY series has explored the concept of the selfie as a “contemporary portrait,” examining self-image and the structures of its performance in the age of social media. The exhibition SELFY: I’M IN TRANS is both a continuation and a new phase—launched at the end of 2024 as a spin-off of SELFY.
In this series, the character “LUNA” takes center stage, depicting the contemporary “landscapes” where AR-like visual experiences and virtual beings seamlessly blend into daily life. Moving beyond the anonymity of the selfie, it presents a “fictional realism of our times.”
In terms of technique, the series departs from Yamaguchi’s once-distinctive black outlines, instead emphasizing planes of light and color to create a sense of buoyancy and atmosphere that directly appeals to the viewer’s vision. Within the canvas, AR-like motifs intersect with vividly rendered realism, sharpening the sensation of transreality—“a reality beyond reality”—where the boundaries of the real and the virtual dissolve.
The exhibition consists entirely of new works, including Yamaguchi’s largest piece to date, a monumental P500. Presented over three days only and in principle by reservation, the exhibition format prioritizes dialogue, with the artist personally present to engage with visitors.
With spatial design and PR support by LWArt, the exhibition unfolds as a total installation offering a heightened sense of immersion. In an age where the real and the virtual intertwine, this exhibition aspires to create a space where one can share the feeling: “I am here now, within this TRANS.”


2020年より山口真人が展開してきた「SELFY」シリーズは、自撮り＝現代の肖像画という視点から、SNS時代の自己像とその演出構造に迫る作品群でした。本展「SELFY : I’M IN TRANS」は、その延長線上にありながらも、新たなフェーズを示すシリーズとして、2024年末より着手された「SELFY」のスピンオフとなります。
本シリーズでは、“LUNA（ルナ）”というキャラクターを中心に、AR的な視覚体験やバーチャルな存在が日常に溶け込む現代の“風景”を描き出しています。匿名性を持ったセルフィーから一歩踏み込んだ、「現代の虚構的リアリズム」を提示するシリーズです。
表現技法としては、これまで特徴的だった黒いアウトラインを極力減らし、光と色彩の面を重視することで、見る者の視覚に直接訴えるような浮遊感と空気感を生み出しています。画面内に存在する擬似的なAR的モチーフと実在感のある描写が交錯し、現実と仮想の境界が曖昧になる「トランスリアリティ（現実の向こう側の現実）」の感覚をより鮮明に浮かび上がらせています。
会場では、山口史上最大サイズとなるP500号を含む全作品を新作で構成。3日間限定、原則予約制という形式を採用し、予約枠では作家自身が在廊し、ご来場者との対話を重視する展示体験をご提供します。
本展は、LWArtによる空間演出とPR支援を受け、より没入感のあるトータルインスタレーションとして構成されています。
現代のリアルとバーチャルが錯綜する時代に、「私はいま、この“TRANS”の中にいる」——
そんな感覚を共有できる場となれば幸いです。


自2020年起，山口真人持续展开的「SELFY」系列，以“自拍＝当代的肖像画”这一视角出发，深入探讨社交媒体时代中个体形象及其背后的演绎结构。本次展览「SELFY : I’M IN TRANS」作为在此脉络上的延伸，是自2024年末开始着手创作的「SELFY」衍生系列，同时也标志着作品进入全新的阶段。
在本系列中，以角色“LUNA（月）」为中心，呈现出AR式的视觉体验与虚拟存在逐渐融入日常的当代“景观”。相较于带有匿名性的自拍图像，本系列更进一步，提出了“当代虚构性写实”的概念。
在表现技法上，艺术家大幅减少以往具有特征性的黑色外轮廓，转而强调光与色彩的层面关系，以此营造出更加直接作用于观者视觉的浮游感与空气感。画面中仿AR的伪装饰性元素与具真实感的描绘彼此交错，使得现实与虚拟的边界变得暧昧，令所谓“跨现实（现实背后的另一种现实）”的感受更加鲜明地显现。
本次展览将以全新创作为构成，其中包含山口迄今最大尺寸的作品——P500号。展期限定三天，并采取预约制为原则；在预约时段内，艺术家本人将驻场，重视与来访者之间的对话式观展体验。
展览由 LWArt 提供空间演出与公关支持，以更具沉浸感的整体式装置形式呈现。 在当代真实与虚拟不断交错的时代之中—— “我正身处于这场‘TRANS’之中。” 期望这能成为一个能够共同分享此种感受的场域。
