Biography

Masato Yamaguchi uses artwork to draw a worldview without various borders, such a culture, real and virtual, human and machine, and hierarchy. Yamaguchi spent his youth in 1990’s Tokyo and received a strong multicultural influence from sampling, remix, mixture, and graffiti. He was also influenced at the same time by surrealism, pop art, and simulationism and expressed the borderless worldview of Tokyo as it assimilated the world using the methods of remix and mashup. Recently he has extended this area to develop his “Transreality” series from an integrated perspective of the opposition between digital and analog, human and machine, and reality and virtual. He employs a variety of expressions utilizing a wide range of techniques including stencil, painting, drones and cleaning robots as well as programming to use artwork to question his own existence and project a borderless worldview.
