Exploring the role of portraiture in contemporary society, Masato Yamaguchi has garnered attention across a wide range of fields, including the art and fashion industries. PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO is pleased to present a solo exhibition by the artist.
Marking the fifth anniversary of Yamaguchi’s signature series *SELFY*, this exhibition will be the largest-scale archive exhibition of the series to date. At the same time, it will explore the unique cultural landscape of Shibuya—a chaotic street culture that has evolved since the 1990s—and the culture of the “selfie” that emerged along its trajectory.
By redefining what may appear to be a purely consumer-driven act as a form of “contemporary art,” the exhibition poses a question: **Why selfies, now?**
Featuring a new work created exclusively for this exhibition, portraying actress and model Elaiza Ikeda, as well as selected collaborative works with prominent figures, the exhibition offers a distinctive interpretation of Yamaguchi’s practice through PARCO’s unique perspective.

Exhibition Highlights
A selection of significant works depicting prominent figures will be brought together in one place, creating a rare opportunity to see “the actual paintings of those familiar faces.”
With the cooperation of collectors in Japan and abroad, the exhibition will also feature representative works that are normally difficult to view publicly.
In addition, an extensive collection of the stencils—the templates that form the core of Yamaguchi’s artistic process—will be unveiled. Through an interactive exhibition design and spatial experience unique to PARCO, visitors will encounter Yamaguchi’s work in an entirely new way.

To commemorate the exhibition, Masato Yamaguchi has created a new *SELFY* portrait of Elaiza Ikeda, who has a long-standing connection with PARCO, including having appeared in its summer seasonal advertising campaigns.
The work will be unveiled to the public for the first time at this exhibition.

Special Talk Event | Kogaken × Masato Yamaguchi
Comedian Kogaken, a longtime acquaintance of Masato Yamaguchi, will join the artist for a one-day-only special talk event.
Beginning with the unexpected connection between Kogaken and Masato Yamaguchi, the two will discuss their respective creative practices and perspectives on contemporary society—offering a rare cross-disciplinary conversation between two creators who make a living through creative expression.

To coincide with the exhibition, a selection of exhibition-exclusive items will be available for purchase.
The lineup includes summer-ready caps and water bottles featuring Yamaguchi’s iconic star motif, as well as limited-edition A2 posters personally supervised by Masato Yamaguchi.

現代社会における肖像画の在り方を探求し、美術業界、ファッション業界をはじめ多方面でいま注目を集める山口真人の個展をPARCO MUSEUM TOKYOにて開催いたします。
いま最も注目を集める現代美術家の一人である山口は、その代表シリーズの「SELFY」が始動5年という節目に開催される過去最大規模のアーカイブ展であると同時に、開催地であるここ渋谷特有の、90年代から続くカオスなストリートカルチャー、そしてその延長線上に生まれた「自撮り」という文化、この一見消費的な振る舞いを「現代のアート」として再定義し、「なぜ今、自撮りなのか」という問いかけをいたします。
本展のために描き下ろされた池田エライザ氏をモデルとした新作をはじめ、著名人とのこれまでのコラボ作品を中心に、パルコならではの切り口で作品を解釈、展示いたします。またとない貴重なこの機会に、是非お越しください。

展覧会の特徴
著名人を描いた歴代の重要作品を一堂に展示。「あの人の絵の実物が見られる」貴重な機会を創出します。国内外のコレクターの協力により、通常鑑賞困難な代表作も集結。
更に制作の核心を担う膨大なステンシル（型紙）群を公開。パルコならではのインタラクティブな会場構成・空間演出により、他にはない山口作品の鑑賞を体験いただけます。

山口真人不断探索肖像画在当代社会中的存在方式与意义，其创作近年来受到艺术、时尚等多个领域的广泛关注。PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO 将于馆内举办山口真人个人展览。
本次展览适逢山口真人代表系列《SELFY》启动五周年，将以迄今为止最大规模的形式呈现该系列的作品档案。
与此同时，展览也将聚焦于涩谷独有的文化脉络——自1990年代延续至今、充满混沌与能量的街头文化，以及在这一文化延长线上诞生的“自拍”文化。

特别对谈｜こがけん × 山口真人
本次展览特别邀请与山口真人相识已久的搞笑艺人こがけん，举办仅限一日的特别对谈活动。
两人将从彼此之间意想不到的关联展开对话，并围绕各自的创作实践与当代社会展开交流。
作为两位以创意表达为职业的创作者，他们将跨越艺术与娱乐等不同领域，展开一场难得而富有启发性的对谈。
