"STENCIL OBJECT" Special exhibition

We are pleased to present a special three-day exhibition in Osaka titled “STENCIL OBJECT.”

With the artist Masato Yamaguchi, I have always continued to seek “something I have never seen before.”
Not only the completed image as an artwork, but also the thoughts behind it, the traces left in the process, and the raw energy of creation itself — to me, all of these are part of his expression.
Over the past year, while closely observing his practice, I found myself especially drawn to the presence of the stencil.
Originally, a stencil is merely a process material used to create a work — something meant to disappear once its role is fulfilled. Yet, through the hands of Masato Yamaguchi, these stencils possess a rawness and intensity distinct from the finished works themselves.
The stripped-down lines, the remaining traces, the layered accumulation of time and labor — within each of them, I felt the very core of his artistic practice. That is precisely why this exhibition focuses on the stencil itself, the “backside” of the creative process.
These works were originally part of the trajectory leading toward his upcoming exhibition in Kansai this July and his exhibition at PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO this August. However, before those exhibitions take place, I strongly felt that people should first encounter this foundational aspect of his expression, and so we made the somewhat impulsive decision to hold this exhibition in Osaka.
I hope this exhibition offers an opportunity to experience the “core” of Masato Yamaguchi from a perspective slightly different from his completed works.

大阪にて３日間限定のSpecial Exhibition「STENCIL OBJECT」を開催いたします。

山口真人というアーティストに対して、私は常に「まだ見たことのないもの」を求め続けてきました。
作品として完成されたイメージだけではなく、その奥にある思考や痕跡、制作の熱量まで含めて、彼の表現だと感じているからです。
この一年、最も近くで制作を見続ける中で、特に強く惹かれたのが“stencil”という存在でした。 本来は作品を生み出すための過程であり、役目を終えれば消えていくはずの素材。しかし山口真人の手を通したstencilには、完成作品とはまた異なる生々しさや強度があります。削ぎ落とされた線、残された痕跡、幾重にも重なる制作の時間。その一つひとつに、彼の作品の核が宿っているように感じました。
だからこそ今回は、制作の“裏側”でもあるstencilそのものに焦点を当てた展示を開催します。 本来であれば、7月に控える関西での展覧会、そして8月のPARCO MUSEUM TOKYOでの展示へ向かっていく流れの中にあった作品たちですが、その前にどうしても、この表現の原点とも言える部分を見ていただきたいと思い、無理を言って急遽大阪での開催を決めました。 完成された作品とは少し違う視点から、山口真人というアーティストの“核”に触れていただければ嬉しく思います。

我们将在大阪举办为期三天的特别展览 「STENCIL OBJECT」

对于艺术家 Masato Yamaguchi，我始终不断追寻着“从未见过的东西”。
不仅仅是作为作品完成后的图像本身，连同其背后的思考、留下的痕迹，以及创作过程中所蕴含的热量与能量，我都认为那才是他真正的表达。
在过去这一年里，我以最近的距离持续观看他的创作，其中最深深吸引我的，便是“stencil（模板）”这一存在。
原本，模板只是为了创作作品而存在的过程性材料，一旦完成使命，本应被消耗并消失。然而，经由 Masato Yamaguchi 之手诞生的 stencil，却拥有着与完成作品截然不同的原始感与强烈力量。 那些被削减后的线条、残留下来的痕迹，以及层层叠加的创作时间——在每一个细节之中，我都感受到他作品最核心的部分。
正因如此，这次展览将聚焦于 stencil 本身，也就是创作“背面”的存在。
这些作品原本是通往今年7月关西展览，以及8月于 PARCO MUSEUM TOKYO 举办展览过程中的一部分。然而，在那些展览开始之前，我无论如何都希望大家能够先看到这种可称为其表达原点的存在，因此我们临时决定于大阪举办此次展览。
希望大家能够透过与完成作品稍有不同的视角，触碰到 Masato Yamaguchi 作为艺术家的“核心”。
